Offering support to Department Of Health to supply face masks
During the first five months of the Coronavirus pandemic, we saw government advice regarding face coverings change, as SAGE were initially concerned around the false sense of security with wearing masks and the prioritisation of PPE to NHS workers.
In the early days, we supported Aliza Reger, owner of lingerie brand Janet Reger, who had been trying to contact the Department of Health to offer the use of her supplier to make 80 million civilian face masks a month, but had received no response.
On the day media were scrutinising the effectiveness of face coverings and the scarcity of PPE, we created a flag offering Janet up to broadcast media to talk about her offer to the British government.
The time between us approaching broadcasters and Janet being on the BBC News Channel was exactly 32 minutes. We also placed her on LBC, Sky News and Talk radio that same day.
