Naz & Matt Foundation
On World Suicide Prevention Day we were delighted to support the Nazz & Matt Foundation. The foundation was created by Matt after his partner committed suicide following his family confronting him about his sexuality. We have been working with the charity to sensitively handle the story and encourage dialogue and discussion with all parties, to avoid Matt’s story repeating. Our data showed that 64% of LGBTQ people who have religious parents struggle with suicidal thoughts as a result of their parents not accepting them. Over a period of a few weeks, we engaged with incredibly brave case studies who have experienced horrors such as corrective rape, violence and total abandonment. We have helped these people come forward to tell their stories to broadcasters – anonymously unless asked others. In a busy news agenda – with new COVID restrictions being rolled out – we’re delighted to have secured interviews across BBC World Service, Sky News Radio, Times Radio, the Gaydio Breakfast Show (who are dedicating the morning to this), talkRADIO, LBC, Heart, Capital, Smooth, ITV Yorkshire, ITV Meridian, STV, BBC Scotland, BBC Cumbria, BBC Solent, BBC Leeds, BBC Manchester, BBC Lancashire, BBC Newcastle and BBC Wiltshire. It is important to note that we also have lined up significant coverage across community stations targeting specific faith groups also. Additionally our guests talking to a hubbed show on the weekend which goes out to every single BBC regional outlet in the country.
